Soy Protein Powder

January 18th, 2012

Soy protein powder is used by weight lifters and bodybuilders alike to aid in muscle repair, development and maintenance. Protein in its most abundant form is normally obtained through eating amino acid rich foods as fish, poultry and beef. This presents a problem for those who must watch their meat intake or vegetarians and/or vegans who shun meat altogether. For these people, soy protein powder has become a popular way to obtain the protein their muscles need.

Soybeans are a complete protein meaning soy protein powder contains all of the essential amino acids that are necessary to the development of lean muscle mass. As an added benefit it has recently been used as a method for controlling high cholesterol levels by protecting LDL cholesterol from oxidation. It has also been linked to the reduction of high levels of cholesterol in the blood as well as being recognized as a dietary ingredient with other positive benefits.

While not believed to be as effective as egg or whey, soy protein powder has found a niche in the bodybuilding world. For instance, isoflavones such as genistein and daidzein are types of antioxidants with the ability to not only repair, but combat cell damage. For this reason, they have become popular with those involved in intense workouts and can be found in local health food stores as well as online at sites such as Amazon.
